Pop icon Lady Gaga has revealed an ongoing battle with post-traumatic stress disorder, part of the emotional fallout from having been raped as a teenager. The singer-songwriter made the revelation during a television interview on Monday at a New York homeless shelter for gay and lesbian (LGBT) youth. “I told the kids today that I suffer from a mental illness — I suffer from PTSD,” said Gaga, speaking to NBC television’s Today Show programme. Two years earlier, the singer revealed on television she had been raped at age 19, an experience that left her traumatised. A gay icon who has long championed the rights of sexual minorities, Gaga, now 30, urged the youths at the Ali Forney Center shelter to find the courage to face their problems. “I don’t have the same kinds of issues that you have, but I have a mental illness, and I struggle with that mental illness every day,” she said. “I need my mantra to help keep me relaxed. Uyo church building collapse: How Gov. Udom survived, over 200 dead during service

The Reigners Bible Church International Incorporation, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, after it collapsed… on Saturday Tragedy struck in the least anticipated place, yesterday, Reigners Bible Ministry, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital, after the church building collapsed during a service. Conflicting accounts put the death toll at between 50 and 200 while Governor Udom Emmanuel, who was present when the incident occurred, survived. Meanwhile, no fewer than two of Udom’s commissioners and another aide were said to have been seriously injured. An unconfirmed report said one of the aides died. Journalists were also said to be among the victims. Eye witnesses said the building, under construction, collapsed around 11 am, about 30 minutes into the programme to enthrone the church founder, Apostle Akan Weeks, as bishop. Weeks, it was learnt, escaped unhurt. ...

Averting another ASUU mega strike

*A week ago, the Academic Union of Nigerian Universities (ASUU) served notice of its intention to embark on a one- week warning strike with effect from Wednesday, 16th November, 2016. Its President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, claimed that ASUU took the action after nationwide consultations with the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Union, though the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige, insisted the Federal Government (ASUU members' main employer) was not notified.* *ASUU said its leadership came under great pressure from its members over pending issues such as the 2009 Collective Bargaining Agreement and 2014 Memorandum of Understanding, which were not properly implemented.
